CDI's service to the Department of Defense dates back to its founding in 1950.
In 1998, CDI-Government Services was
formed, consolidating ship design, naval and aviation engineering and professional
consulting services. CDI Goverment Services represents the combined capabilities of CDI Marine
Company, CDI Marine-Band Lavis, CDI Marine-Professional Services and The M&T Company.
CDI Marine-Band Lavis is a naval architecture and ship design company,
specializing in early stage ship design and marine technology research and
development. Band Lavis & Associates was founded in 1977 as a privately
owned business, offering conventional and advanced marine engineering and
naval architectural services. Acquired by CDI Marine Company in 1998.

Marine-Band Lavis works extensively in the design, testing and development of
conventional and high performance ships, craft and marine vessels, with core
competencies in naval architecture, hydrodynamics, structural design, waterjet
design, concept exploration and early stage design.
CDI Marine Company is a marine engineering and design company, specializing in
ship, submarine and boat design, construction, modernization, conversion, alteration,
maintenance and repair. CDI Marine Company was founded in 1973 by CDI Corporation
to support the naval and commercial shipbuilding industry. Today, CDI Marine
Company works extensively in the areas of naval engineering and systems design
with core competencies in detailed design, ship alteration installation, watercraft
engineering, and integrated logistics support.
The M&T Company (M&T) is a military aviation engineering and logistics company,
specializing in providing engineering and technical support services for aviation
support equipment, aircraft launch and recovery equipment and electronic manufacturing.
M&T was founded in 1918 as a privately owned small business and was acquired by CDI
Corporation in 1971. In 1998, M&T became part of CDI-Government Services Division,
delivering core competencies in electrical and mechanical engineering, test engineering
acquisition and sustainment logistics support, program management support, and low volume
electronic manufacturing of assemblies, subassemblies and piece parts.
CDI Marine-Professional Services is an engineering, IT, and management consulting
services company, specializing in naval ship acquisition, modernization, maintenance
and readiness solutions. This unit was formed in 2005 in order to provide professional
consulting and technical staffing services to Government and Military clients.
